Pragmatic Skills - Like the Blog????

If one of the pragmatic skills is "maintaining the topic" how can that be similar to "conversation skills" on a blog?

When a person posts a comment is this the same as starting a conversation? How can one maintain the topic by posting a COMMENT rather than starting ANOTHER conversation with the exact same topic?

How can we create CONVERSATIONS on the blog to DISCUSS ideas back and forth, building on one another's ideas, actually demonstrating acknowledgement of other's ideas?

Challenge for the week as we conclude blogging for the month. Posts that demonstrate the pragmatic skills such as turn taking and conversation skills we've addressed in class.

When a person posts a comment on the blog it can be in the form of a question or statement. Either way other people can post their opinions, or concerns. Therefore, continuing the conversation. For example, If I wanted to know more about B.F. Skinner, one of my fellow classmates could provide information, and if I did not understand the information I could once again ask a question, or another classmate could add to the information posted by the previous classmate.. Thus, having a discussion and building on what we know about B.F. Skinner.

I agree with Elana. To have a conversation on a blog the main ingredient is an open ended question or satatemnet that poses a question.

I agree. A good way to keep a conversation going is to post a comment that addresses a question or concern to the rest of the class. When students read the question, the can respond in their own opinion by posting a reply comment instead of an entirely new post. Different people's opinions and answers will keep the conversation going on the same topic. When we are answering in response to someone else's post, we should do this through a reply instead of creating a new post about the same thing. This way, our comments are all related to the same topic and are under the same original post for all to see.

To go along with the other comments I agree that the point of blogging is discussion. It is nice too, because everyone is able to equally be included in every discussion. There is room for those that are normally shy to speak up and voice themselves with out the classroom environment. (By no means am I referring to myself, just discussing is all)

I think continuing a conversation is great and that is whst I have been trying to do. However, sometimes I might like to start a new conversation. The problem is, I don't know how!!! Can anyone help me??
