Wow...the world we live in today! Do you mean that he is making a profession out of playing this game? I don't even know what to say...Hobbies should never replace your education, because what's he going to do when the Guitar Hero craze is just part of the past?

This is such a crazy story, people in the world continue to amaze me! If I were a parent I could not imagine my child coming to me and saying that they were going to quit to play a game. School is very important and you realize it more as you get older, his parents should have stood up to him and said no.

i read about that in a recent issue of some gaming magazine and his parents consented to letting the boy drop out. Or so sayes the article. But hey gamers do have a professional circuit. They compete for money and stuff. Some events are even televised on g4.

There are so many distractions that come in between students and their graduation date. Part of the teaching profession is making sure those students walk across that stage to recieve their diplomas. I think special education teachers face this issue more than regular ed teachers. Special Education students get frustrated, get jobs, get paid and have money and are not used to the lifestyle, also, these special education students do not always have the best home lives and do not have the support they might need to finish their academic careers.

My senior year my class had around 10 or more students drop out. I never understood why they would want to drop out when they were so close to graduation. After reading the last post, I remembered how they didn't have good support systems from their parents. This was more than likely the cause. With out support from their parents, they did what they wanted to do because they didn't feel like anyone cared. Maybe they were trying to get their parents to show some interest with taking an extreme, such as dropping out of high school their senior year.
